From the past to the present, optical coherence tomography in glaucoma: a practical guide to a common disease

Glaucoma comprises a group of disorders the optic nerve that cause degenerative neuropathy, characterised by failure neuroretinal rim tissue in head, retinal fibre layer, and ganglion cells. Glaucoma imposes serious epidemiological threat, with an steady increase global number cases. In current ophthalmological practice, glaucoma is diagnosed via series examinations, including routine funduscopic examination, ocular tonometry, gonioscopy, measurement visual field, assessment using optical coherence tomography (OCT) technique. Nowadays, OCT technique helps systematising diagnostic pathway basic tool for detection early glaucomatous eye changes. It also vital assessing progression monitoring treatment results patients. The aim this review was to present as main diagnosing glaucoma.
